CES 2019: Daimler Trucks axes platooning efforts

Success in the lab has not translated into real-world testing, and at CES 2019 Daimler said it now aims to jump from Level 2 automation straight to Level 4. By Freddie Holmes

CES has become a platform for major announcements, and at the 2019 event Daimler Trucks stunned many by declaring that platooning was now off the table.

In what could prove a landmark moment in the development of autonomous trucks, Martin Daum, Head of Daimler Trucks, explained that the expected fuel efficiency benefits are too hard to attain in the real-world.
